Manager, Member Services and Annual Giving

The Manager, Member Services and Annual Giving is a new position and will play a key role in ensuring accurate records, leading to high-quality member experience, developing and executing strategies to increase retention and acquisition, and building and maintaining relationships with members. This role combines strategic planning, relationship-building, and hands-on program management to increase participation, engagement, and revenue from members.

The ideal candidate will be an energetic, detail-oriented, and donor-focused professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced arts environment and brings 3–5 years of demonstrated fundraising or membership management experience.


Key Responsibilities

Data, Reporting, and Analysis

  • Create and maintain member records in CRM software (Tessitura), ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Process member renewals, upgrades, acquisition memberships.
  • Process and issue gift acknowledgements in a timely and donor-centered manner.
  • Provide support for contribution entry, as needed.
  • Track key membership performance metrics (renewal, upgrades, and downgrade trends), prepare regular reports, and use data insights to inform membership strategies for both lower-level and major donors, and prospects.
  • Develop and maintain exports, reports, lists, and dashboards to support organizational and departmental goals.
  • Monitor trends in performing arts membership programs and recommend innovations or improvements.

Member Relations, Stewardship, and Benefits Administration

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for member services, providing excellent customer service and personalized support.
  • Support and develop compelling member benefits and experiences that align with organizational goals and audience interests.
  • Build and maintain relationships with members to encourage deeper engagement and potential philanthropic growth.
  • Support member stewardship events, receptions, and behind-the-scenes experiences that enhance loyalty and satisfaction (evening/weekend hours required, especially May through August).
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the entire Development staff to identify and cultivate members with capacity for higher-level giving.

Annual Giving Strategy and Management

  • Create and manage all aspects of membership communications, including print and electronic renewal and acquisition appeals, gift acknowledgments, and benefits administration.
  • Create and manage all aspects of the annual car raffle campaign in support of student scholarships, including print and electronic appeals, summer staff management, and volunteer oversight.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Box Office functions to integrate membership messaging into ticketing and audience engagement channels.

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across Development, Box Office, Marketing, and Artistic departments to ensure alignment between fundraising and audience engagement goals.
  • Support organization-wide fundraising initiatives, including annual fund campaigns and special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in fundraising, membership, or development—ideally within a performing arts or cultural organization.
  • Experience with CRM or donor database systems (Tessitura, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, etc.).
  • Demonstrated success in managing membership or donor programs supporting revenue goals.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service mindset.
  • Creative thinker with an appreciation for audience and member development, the performing arts, and the mission of Brevard Music Center.
  • Evening and weekend work is required during the Summer Festival Season and other times of the year, as needed.

  • Seasonal extended hours to meet specific deadlines and campaign/event needs.
  • Position reports to the Senior Director of Development.

About Brevard Music Center

The Brevard Music Center (BMC) is one of the nation's premier summer music training programs and festivals, welcoming nearly 1,000 students and participants of all ages each year with broad national and international reach. Under the artistic direction of Keith Lockhart, BMC presents more than one hundred performances each summer, spanning orchestra, opera, voice, piano, chamber music, jazz, bluegrass, and film with live orchestra. For nearly nine decades, BMC has provided exceptional training for young musicians through mentorship with distinguished faculty and guest artists, while also enriching the cultural life of Western North Carolina year-round through its Parker Concert Hall Series.


BMC Development and Special Events

The Development and Special Events Office is responsible for securing contributed income to support Brevard Music Center's annual operations and identified special capital and artistic projects. We accomplish this by working collaboratively with our Board and senior staff leadership to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals, businesses, foundations, and organizations who are genuinely interested in supporting our mission and our students.
