Accounting Specialist

Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual to join our team as an Accounting Specialist. As an Accounting Specialist, you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall accounting functions of our organization. This is a full-time position with opportunities for growth and development.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with various accounting tasks, including but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger entries, and account reconciliations
  • Process invoices, expense reports, and other financial documents
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes including state and federal reporting
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and reports
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the accounting system
  • Provide support for audits and other financial reviews

Experience:

  • Previous experience in corporate accounting or related field preferred
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficiency in using accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Quickbooks) and MS Office Suite (especially Excel)
  • Familiarity with double-entry bookkeeping
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
  • Three or more years of experience in an accounting role. Experience with nonprofit accounting preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

  • Salary: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
  • Expected hours: 37.50 per week

Working Conditions:

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Work takes place primarily at main office. 
  • Travel to other BMC buildings required as needed to coordinate work, attend meetings, etc.
  • Seasonal extended work hours to meet specific deadlines and special assignments.
  • Position reports to Controller.
