BMC Artistic Director
David Effron Principal Conductor Chair
Keith Lockhart is Conductor of the Boston Pops and has been Artistic Director of the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute and Festival since 2007. Lockhart’s appointment solidified an already special relationship with BMC, having attended as a teenager for two summers.
Now in his 30th Anniversary season with the Boston Pops, Keith’s tenure includes well over 2,500 performances, 45 tours to more than 150 U.S. cities, five international tours, and 80 television shows. As Principal Conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra from 2010-2018, Keith led acclaimed North American tours, annual performances at The Proms, a celebration of the orchestra’s 60th year, as well as a concert to honor Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.
Keith was previously Music Director of the Utah Symphony and Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, as well as Associate Conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony/Cincinnati Pops Orchestras. He has conducted nearly every major orchestra in North America and around the world, including the Royal Concertgebouw, London Philharmonic, Vienna Radio Symphony, Hong Kong Philharmonic, and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Keith has conducted productions with the Opera Companies of Atlanta, Washington, Boston Lyric, and Utah. This season, he has returned to The Cleveland Orchestra, the Vienna Tonkuenstler Orchestra, and the Buffalo Philharmonic, and will continue his relationship with the Czech Philharmonic with a return next November.
