Concerto Competition

The Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition is open to all full-session BMC instrumental students. Instruments and selected concertos are listed below.

A student selects a concerto movement from the official repertoire list for their instrument and performs it from memory with piano accompaniment for judges.

The 2022 Concerto Competition will occur in 3 rounds:

  • Preliminary round: held via video upload, May 2-31 (add a Youtube video link to your MyBMC account). Memorization and piano accompaniment are required.
  • Semi-final round: held on campus after arrival at Brevard
  • Final round: Thursday, July 7 (open to the public)

Previously recorded videos with orchestra or other ensemble are not permitted for the preliminary round. Participants who advance must perform the same concerto movement/selection for all three rounds.

Winners perform with the BMC Orchestra in the "Soloists of Tomorrow" concert on Sunday, July 31 and receive a full scholarship to attend Brevard in 2023.

Previous winners are not eligible to enter again.
