
Andrew Gantzer Principal Bass
Bassist Andrew Gantzer is the Assistant Principal Bass of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and a section bassist with the Festival Orchestra of Lincoln Center. A native of Centreville, Virginia, Andrew earned a bachelor’s degree from The Juilliard School as a student of Harold Robinson and Rex Surany. He was previously a Tanglewood Music Center fellow and a Keston MAX fellow at the Music Academy of the West. Equally devoted to chamber music, Andrew frequently performs in Weill Recital Hall as a part of the MET Chamber Ensemble. He has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and has taught guest classes at the Manhattan School of Music. When he is not playing bass, Andrew can be found lifting weights, playing disc golf, and exploring upstate New York.
