Program Overview

BMC’s Flute Seminar is an immersive, engaging, and fun program that will help improve your technique, accelerate your growth, and expand your network of teachers and fellow flutists.

The Flute Seminar is for participants ages 14-24. Students will work closely with faculty to receive individual and group instruction, which includes:

  • Private lessons
  • Masterclasses in solo repertoire
  • Flute Fundamentals and Effective Practice Techniques
  • Orchestral Excerpts and mock auditions
  • Maximizing Performance Potential
  • Mind and Body well–being
  • Preparation for college, careers, and beyond
  • Flute Ensemble
  • Closing recital

Audition Requirements

Admission to the Brevard Music Center is determined by audition. Flutists may upload audio recordings or link(s) to YouTube video auditions directly into the application.

Perform two contrasting solo works or movements from different style periods.

Sample Daily Schedule

7:30-8:30am Breakfast
8:30-9:15am Breathing/Warm-Up Class
9:30am-noon Masterclass (topics such as French flute, excerpts, piccolo, baroque)
12:00-1:00pm Lunch

1:00-3:00pm Flute Choir
4:00-5:30pm Private lesson rotation/Practice time
5:30pm Dinner
Evenings Classes or activities (such as mentorship, bonfire, waterfall visit)

The program also includes a faculty recital and student recital.

Tuition & Scholarships

Tuition for the Flute Seminar is $1650. The tuition fee includes all instruction, housing, meals, on-campus health services, and concert admission. Each participant is responsible for travel to and from Brevard. Limited scholarship support is available in the form of financial need-based assistance.

The application fee is $40. A non-refundable enrollment fee of $400 is due within 10 days of acceptance and applies toward the cost of tuition. The remaining tuition balance is due by May 15.

Refunds

All payments, except the $40 application fee and $400 enrollment fee, will be fully refunded if the Center receives notice of cancellation due to serious illness before May 15. Written verification from an M.D. is required. No reduction in fees can be made for late arrival or early departure. No refunds will be made after May 15.

Arrival and Departure

Attendees should arrive and check-in on Saturday, June 13, 2026 between 11:00am-3:00pm. The first meeting will start at 4:00pm, followed by dinner and an evening class/activity. Resident Assistants

A limited number of Flute Seminar Resident Assistant (RA) positions are available for the program. Brevard’s RAs provide guidance to younger students and supervise student living quarters.

RAs have the same ensemble and performance opportunities as other students. Flute Seminar RAs pay only a non-refundable enrollment fee of $400 which covers tuition, room, and board, and must be 21 by the start date of the program. RAs should arrive and check-in with the other students on Saturday, June 13, 2026 between 11:00am-3:00pm. RA departure is on Thursday, June 18 after noon to ensure all residents are checked out and the dorm is inspected before departure.

Selected individuals will participate in a telephone interview, and, if chosen, submit to a formal background check and participate in an RA orientation session.
