Concerto Competition
The Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition will be held during the third full week of the 2010 season. Any full-session BMC instrumental student is eligible to participate.
A student selects a concerto movement from the approved repertoire list and performs it with piano accompaniment for judges. The competition occurs in two rounds:
- a preliminary round in which students compete within instrumental families (strings, woodwinds, brass/percussion, piano)
- a final round, held on the stage of Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium and open to the public
Winners perform their works with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra on August 1. Winners receive full scholarships to BMC for the following summer. Previous winners are not eligible to enter again.
Performances are given from memory and are limited to one movement of a work on the official repertoire list, below. No other works are permitted.
