College Piano
Full Session: June 25 - August 8, 2010
Half Session: June 25 - July 16 or July 17 - August 8, 2010
Each year Brevard's piano program serves more than seventy students. Pianists may enroll for the full six-week term or for either the first or the second half (three weeks). Most students select the full term.
The piano program provides:
- private study with distinguished teachers
- ample practice time
- weekly studio and master classes with faculty and guest artists
- classes in literature, performance practice, or other topics
Classes offered in 2009 include:
- Modern Performance Practice in the Clavier Music of Bach (weekly)
A similar schedule will be announced for the 2010 season.
Pianists may elect to participate in enhanced collaborative activities, e.g., instrumental, vocal, chamber, duo/duet, orchestra. Piano students present a public recital each week. Steinway is the official piano of the Brevard Music Center.
Each year piano students perform in the BMC Chorus in a concert with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra. Past seasons have included performances of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Orff's Carmina Burana.
Students work on campus in 90 studios and practice rooms. Piano students may reserve daily practice time and may practice in any vacant room.
The BMC Piano Competition is open to any BMC pianist enrolled for the full term. Winners receive cash prizes and scholarships for future study at Brevard. Many piano students also enter the Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition.
