Auditions
To be admitted to the Brevard Music Center a student must complete an audition.
Audition requirements vary by program, as follows.
Orchestral Studies (except percussion)
Send a CD or upload files to the Brevard Music Center server.
Students in the high school division should perform two solo pieces in contrasting styles.
Students in the college division should perform a solo piece and three standard orchestra excerpts.
Accompaniment for the solo(s) is optional.
Total audition length should not exceed 12 minutes.
Orchestral Studies Percussion
Send a DVD video recording.
Piano
Send a CD or upload files to the Brevard Music Center server.
Perform two contrasting solo works or movements from different style periods.
Total audition time should not exceed 12 minutes.
Composition
Send a portfolio that includes scores and recordings on CD.
Voice (High School Division)
Send a DVD video recording.
Perform from memory two songs from the classical repertoire (not musical theater).
One or both must be sung in English.
With the video include a letter of recommendation from a music professional (voice or piano teacher, choir director).
Do not send a letter from a relative.
Opera (College Division)
Audition in person at one of our national sites or send a DVD video recording.

All Programs
Submitting an Audition Recording:
- Do not submit an audition recording until you have started the application process. No audition recording will be evaluated until the application fee is paid.
- Make sure that the recording itself demonstrates the highest possible audio quality so that your performance can be evaluated successfully.
- Do not edit within a selection or electronically alter the recording.
- If you are mailing a recording to BMC, label the media with your name, instrument, and age, and list your selections. Label the case with the same information and include your address.
- If you are uploading an audio recording, follow the instructions on the application page.
- Never upload a video recording.
- Never send an audition via email.
