Schedule

National auditions for the Janiec Opera Company 2008 season will occur in December 2007 and January 2008, as follows.

January 2008

An additional audition day is scheduled on the Brevard Music Center campus, Friday, January 25. These auditions will be videotaped by the Admissions staff and sent to the Janiec Opera Company director for review. No one from the opera staff will be present.

Requirements

Brevard Music Center recommends that opera applicants audition in person if possible. Applicants unable to audition in person may submit a DVD video,

For a live audition, be prepared to perform:

  • two arias, one in English and one in another language
  • one song in English from the classic musical theater repertoire (e.g., Lerner and Loewe, Rodgers and Hammerstein)
  • a one-minute spoken monologue or a reading of a short scene from The Mikado or The Magic Flute. Someone at the audition will read with you.
Bring an 8”x10” glossy photograph and a current resumé. Accompaniment is required; please bring your own pianist if possible. An accompanist will be available if needed, for their usual fee. Please contact Dorothy Knowles at (828) 862-2140 for information.

For auditions on video DVD, include on the DVD:

  • two arias, one in English and one in another language
  • one song in English from the classic musical theater repertoire (e.g., Lerner and Loewe, Rodgers and Hammerstein)

In the package with the DVD include an 8”x10” glossy photograph and a current resumé. Do not submit a DVD or any other material before applying online. An audition video must be received by February 1, 2008.
