Concerto Competition

The Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition is held on July 19 - 20. Any full-session BMC student is eligible to participate.

A student selects a concerto movement from the approved repertoire list and performs it with piano accompaniment for judges. The competition occurs in two rounds:

  • a preliminary round in which students compete within instrumental families (strings, woodwinds, brass/percussion, piano)

  • a final round, held on the stage of Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium and open to the public
Winners perform their works with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra on August 1. Winners receive full scholarships to BMC for the following summer.

Performances are given from memory and are limited to one movement of a work on the repertoire list. Specific rules and procedures for a season's competition are published at the beginning of the season.
