Campus Life

Schedule and Activities

Students must organize and maintain their own schedules of rehearsals, concerts and appointments. Students rehearse in a large ensemble each day and prepare concerts. The season is busy with preparation for weekly lessons, masterclasses, studio classes, chamber music, YA theory and literature classes, sectional rehearsals, etc.

Optional evening/weekend activities such as movies, games, dances, bowling, rafting, and hikes to magnificent waterfalls are organized and supervised by the residence life staff. The campus has a swimming lake, a soccer field, and an outdoor basketball court.

Housing

Student residences house approximately sixteen students, three or four to a room. Each YA residence is staffed by two Head Residents. Each AD residence is staffed by one Head Resident.

Students maintain their own residences; each student is expected to keep his/her own living area clean and to participate in a rotating schedule for general cleaning.

Residences are separated by age and gender. There is no mixed-gender housing at Brevard. Special housing for married students is not available.

Food

Students, staff, and faculty dine in Searcy Cafeteria at the center of the BMC campus. The cafeteria has liberal hours during breakfast, lunch, and dinner times. A variety of foods is available to accommodate different tastes and diets. Parents and guests may dine in Searcy Cafeteria for a fee.

Health and Wellness

Brevard Music Center strongly advocates health and fitness for musicians. Brevard's Wellness Center provides instruction, equipment, and counseling on healthful approaches to making music.

Upon acceptance to BMC, each student must send a current health history. A student will not be enrolled until this information is provided.

Policies and Procedures

The Brevard Music Center houses about 600 people in close proximity for the summer season, so adhering to some basic rules for living is imperative. All students are required to read and abide by the official Student Handbook.

All students, staff, and faculty are required to read, sign, and return a document that describes the drug and alcohol policies of the Brevard Music Center.
